Découvre les Glaciers avec Heïdi Sevestre
A collection of books featuring stories and insights from today’s explorers and nature enthusiasts, answering the questions children would love to ask them about their dream jobs.
For this fifth volume, we meet Heidi Sevestre, an expert on the world of ice.
“AVALANCHE!” “BEAR!” The life of a field glaciologist is anything but easy…
Heïdi Sevestre’s story is, first and foremost, the story of a little mountain girl who grew up in Haute-Savoie. From the slopes of Mont Semnoz to her grandmother’s alpine chalet, Heïdi loved hiking, encountering animals, and above all, gazing at the ice giants from a very young age. “Did you know there are people whose job is to study glaciers?” a hiking guide whispered to her. That was the spark!
Soon, Heïdi found herself attending the world’s northernmost university, in Svalbard. She went on a series of expeditions to Greenland, the Arctic, Antarctica, and the Alps. Through her adventures on the ice and in collaboration with teams of scientists, Heïdi collects valuable data that she is determined to share with the general public, as well as with policymakers. She is moving toward science communication and aims to serve as a bridge between what she observes in the field and the actions that can be taken.
Delve into the world of glaciology and discover the findings and hopes surrounding our glaciers through Heïdi Sevestre’s journey and experiences.
