Découvre les Glaciers avec Heïdi Sevestre
Plume de Carotte
A collection of books featuring stories and insights from today’s explorers and nature enthusiasts, answering the questions children would love to ask them about their dream jobs.
For this fifth volume, we meet Heidi Sevestre, an expert on the world of ice.
“AVALANCHE!” “BEAR!” The life of a field glaciologist is anything but easy…
Heïdi Sevestre’s story is, first and foremost, the story of a little mountain girl who grew up in Haute-Savoie. From the slopes of Mont Semnoz to her grandmother’s alpine chalet, Heïdi loved hiking, encountering animals, and above all, gazing at the ice giants from a very young age. “Did you know there are people whose job is to study glaciers?” a hiking guide whispered to her. That was the spark!
Soon, Heïdi found herself attending the world’s northernmost university, in Svalbard. She went on a series of expeditions to Greenland, the Arctic, Antarctica, and the Alps. Through her adventures on the ice and in collaboration with teams of scientists, Heïdi collects valuable data that she is determined to share with the general public, as well as with policymakers. She is moving toward science communication and aims to serve as a bridge between what she observes in the field and the actions that can be taken.
Delve into the world of glaciology and discover the findings and hopes surrounding our glaciers through Heïdi Sevestre’s journey and experiences.
Demain, C’est Nous
Éditions du Faubourg
“The Arctic is dying, and without its sea ice, glaciers, unique flora and fauna, and its people and their traditions, the future of our civilization is at stake. ” Driven by this conviction, Heidi Sevestre, a renowned glaciologist, joined the unconventional project conceived by François Bernard, a technology teacher in La Rochelle, to take his eighth-grade class to Svalbard, near the North Pole.
Together, they conceived this journey as both an adventure and an experiment. The teens returned with the desire to make the “Tomorrow Is Us” project an option offered to all students of the “Greta generation.”
Educating through emotion and fostering empathy for nature are the best ways to make young people aware of the gravity of climate change.

Sentinelle du climat (poche)
Harper Collins France
Saving the glaciers means saving ourselves.
Driven by her love of snow-covered landscapes, Heïdi Sevestre, a native of Haute-Savoie, decided to become a glaciologist. For her research, she travels the globe to encounter these giants of ice: the Arctic, the Himalayas, Greenland, and Antarctica. But wonder gives way to anxiety: the glaciers are melting at breakneck speed and will disappear within a few decades if we don’t act now. Heïdi Sevestre then speaks out to alert the general public and those in power to the devastation caused by global warming.
Sentinelle, Voyage au Cœur des Glaciers
Harper Collins France
A beautiful book that takes you on a journey to discover glaciers, our planet’s “white gold”
All over the world, glaciers are melting, sea ice is retreating, and landscapes that have existed for millennia are disappearing at a dizzying pace. As silent witnesses to global warming, these ice giants are sending us a warning: their imminent disappearance threatens the fragile balance of our planet. Heïdi Sevestre, a passionate glaciologist and explorer, takes us to the heart of the globe’s most remote regions: from the Arctic to Antarctica, via the Himalayas and Greenland. Through her travels and striking photographs, she shares her wonder at the fragile beauty of glaciers, as well as her fight to protect them.
Sentinelle, a journey to the heart of the glaciers, is a visual and scientific ode that invites contemplation, but above all action, driven by a deep conviction: saving the glaciers means preserving our future.
Discover a fascinating journey between beauty, urgency, and hope.
